ARTICLES GOVERNING THE BALTIC STATES MOUNTAINEERING CHAMPIONSHIP 2017

1. MISSION OF THE CHAMPIONSHIP
Mission of the championship is to promote mountaineering and mountain trekking and select the best climbs, treks and teams.

2. TIME AND LOCATION
2.1. The evaluation of climbing reports of the championship will take place on 16th of December 2017 in Lithuania, Vilnius University “ The Theatre hall” (Universiteto st. 3, Vilnius)
2.2. The championship and award ceremony will be held on 16th of December 2017 in Lithuania.

3. MANAGEMENT OF THE CHAMPIONSHIP
3.1. Management of the championship is organized by Lithuanian Alpine Association and Lietuvos Keliautojų Sąjunga. Additional information at Alpinist.lt
3.2. Chief Judge of the championship is Marius Pulkauninkas.

4. TERMS OF THE CHAMPIONSHIP
4.1. Members of teams must be citizens or permanent residents of the Baltic States.
4.2. Routes, eligible for the championship – climbed all over the world from 1st of November 2016 to 31st of October 2017.
4.3. Championship will be held in four categories:
a) climbing category (climbs up to 3500m);
b) technical category (climbs up to 6000 m);
c) high mountain category (climbs above 6000 m);
d) mountain trekking category.
4.4. Teams should consist of:
a) no more than 8 members of the team in the climbing and technical categories;
b) no more than 12 members of the team in the high mountain and treks categories.
4.5. Requirements for formatting route report are stated in Appendix 1. In trekking category the traditional report should be submitted (Appendix 2).
4.6. The reports should be presented in English or in Russian, preferred on printed paper and submitted to the Jury no later than 15th of November 2017. Alternatively, reports can be submitted to the Jury by e-mail info@alpinist.lt in the form of .PDF or .DOC no later than 15th of November 2017.

5. DETERMINATION OF WINNERS
5.1. Determination of the winning team is prerogative of the Jury. The Jury consists of 6 Judges – 2 representing each participating country.
5.2. The Jury will assess ascents and routes based on reports submitted, as well as additional information provided by the representatives of the countries and teams.
5.3. The Jury will choose winners by secret voting or joint decision.
5.4. The Jury may allocate additional prizes (for originality and novelty of the route, quality of the report, etc.).
5.5. The ranking by country. First place in every category gets 10 points, second place 8 points, third place 7 points, etc. Three best ascents of each country will be chosen in each category. In case of equal score, the advantage is given to the country with most first places awarded, then with most second places, etc.
5.6. The countries will submit only 5 best teams in each category to eliminate winning of the country based on the number of reports solely.

6. AWARD CEREMONY
The winning team in each category will receive medals and diplomas for each member of the team.

7. PROTESTS
Appeals against the assessment of the Jury are accepted within 2 (two) hours after the announcement of awards. Three extra members (one from each country) will be added to the Jury for the examination of appeals.

8. COSTS
The participants shall cover all costs related to the participation in the championship. The fee per person is 20 EUR. Two members of the Jury from each country and the Presidents of the national mountaineering associations shall be exempt from the fee.
